Job Title: Instrumentation & Electrical Supervisor
Job Summary:
As the Instrumentation & Electrical Supervisor, you will lead the design, commissioning, and ongoing operations of control systems and process control networks. This role demands expertise in proprietary DCS/PLC systems including Rockwell, ABB, WonderWare suite, and Canary Historian. You will oversee system programming, manage contractor work, and ensure the maintenance of critical spare parts while adhering to stringent health and safety protocols. This position requires proactive management to avoid business-impacting incidents and drive continuous improvement within the control systems infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities:
- Health and Safety: Prioritize Health and Safety by adhering to all safe work practices, policies, and procedures. Promote a culture of safety in all aspects of the work environment.
- Control Systems Management: Collaborate with the Controls Systems team to ensure operational readiness. Proactively manage the control systems environment to prevent business-impacting incidents. Implement and manage logic changes to enhance plant reliability and minimize trips. Use the management of change process to ensure logic changes are controlled and risk-assessed.
- Programming and Development: Develop and implement control strategies and process control algorithms. Design and maintain Basic Process Control and Process Optimization systems. Oversee the development and maintenance of Historians (ABB, Wonderware, and Claroty in the future).
- Team Leadership and Coaching: Coach operations and technical personnel on control strategies and system usage. Direct the work of contractors and provide necessary instruction and support.
- System Maintenance and Improvement: Ensure the reliability and maintenance of DCS/PLC hardware and software. Maintain backups of critical systems and improve the process control network. Lead efforts in renewing and evolving DCS platforms to drive continuous improvement.
- Performance Monitoring: Establish and manage goals, KPIs, and dashboards for control system performance. Resolve control system performance issues with strong critical thinking skills.
- Documentation and Compliance: Maintain network diagrams, P&ID diagrams, and control system drawings. Follow safe and compliant working procedures, ensuring all documentation is up-to-date.
- Miscellaneous: Perform other duties as assigned by management as needed by the business requirements. May require scheduled on-call work during off-hours.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Automation/Instrumentation, or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of control system experience. Proven expertise in DCS and PLC programming across various manufacturers. Experience with ABB DCS and AB Programmable Logic Controllers.
- Skills: Proficient in plant control system maintenance, design, and process instrumentation diagrams. Strong knowledge of PLC Ladder Logic Trees and tuning/troubleshooting of analog loops. Familiarity with computer networking, TCP/IP networks, and industry standards (ISA, NIST, CISA) for improving site PCN reliability and cybersecurity. Experience with VMware, SCADA systems, ControlLogix 5000, FactoryTalk, and ABB 800xa Control Builder. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Certifications: Training/Certification in ABB and AB Hardware/Software is preferred. Training in ABB and AB Networking Standards is preferred.
- Other Requirements: Ability to work independently and handle on-call responsibilities. Strong organizational and leadership skills.
